The Room on the Roof is Ruskin Bond's first novel, written when he was seventeen and winner of the John Llewellyn Rhys Memorial Prize in 1957. The book details his life and experiences growing up in India and his time in England. It has since been published in Puffin Books and includes essays, poems, and children's books, alongside over 500 short stories. He has received multiple awards, including the Sahitya Akademi Award, Padma Shri, and Padma Bhushan. Bond was born in Kasauli, India, and spent his youth in various Indian cities before living in England for four years, returning to India in 1955. He currently resides in Landour, Mussoorie, with his adopted family.
