It must be deeply impressed on the minds and wills of nov-ices that their souls’movement towards God implies a gradualprocess of purification from the remnants of evil in the form ofself-will and self-1ove.In other words, the powers of the soulmust be adjusted to the lofty heights of the supernatural order,a process which entails much sacrifice and suffering because it in-volves the mystical death of man. They must learn to realize tothe full that the natural man in them with his mind, will, andbody is to be brought into harmony with the law of grace beforethey can be transformed into Christ-like,God-like beings. Here it is where faith, love, and reverence for God,desire for holinessand humility, must unite in bringing about this transformation, which includes in its scope:purification, sanctification, and beatifi-cation of the soul.Constant desires, persevering prayer, and strain-ing for the gift of prayer, for deeper faith and humility, for moreintense love and reverence for God,are needed to obtain fromGod what no soul can give to herself.“Ask and it shall be givenunto you,"our divine Savior exhorts us.Then there must also beeffort or cooperation with
