The Penang Education Department (JPN) is implementing proactive measures to prepare schools across the state for the prevailing heatwave. Despite Penang not being under any official heat alert, continuous monitoring is in place, with the department maintaining close communication with the Malaysian Meteorological Department for the latest updates. State Education Director Mohamad Dziauddin Mat Saad has instructed all headmasters, principals, and District Education Offices to ensure all 398 schools are prepared according to guidelines from the Ministry of Education. Following an engagement session prior to the school reopening, schools have informed parents about adjustments to schedules and student needs during the hot weather, including granting schools autonomy to permit more comfortable clothing. Consequently, students are observed wearing T-shirts and carrying water bottles and mini fans, with schools providing water supply in canteens. Mohamad Dziauddin also highlighted that JPN is addressing school infrastructure, specifically fans, windows, and ventilation systems, to ensure a conducive learning environment. The Infrastructure and Procurement Sector has been tasked with urgent review of facilities for immediate repair work.
