This cross-sectional study evaluated the diagnostic value of nasal smear eosinophil counts as an alternative, noninvasive test for children with allergic rhinitis. Between Sep 2019 and Aug 2020, 120 children diagnosed by ARIA-WHO criteria had serum total IgE and eosinophil counts from nasal smears and peripheral blood measured. Results showed nasal smear eosinophil counts, blood eosinophils, and serum IgE increased with disease severity, with significant positive correlations between nasal eosinophils and both serum IgE and blood eosinophils.
