This booklet is for the high school student and the college fresh-man or sophomore who want information—or MORE information—on occupational fields for women who have a college education. If you already know what you want to do,it will helpyou to choose a major field of interest and supportingelectives. If you do not know what you want to do,it will giveyou at least enough information to start you on the wayto finding out. # HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF THIS BOOKLET To get the most out of this booklet, you should read carefullythe preliminary sections before you begin to look up specific occu-pations.These introductory comments give you general informa-tion about deciding on an occupation suitable to you and about theMarygrove plan to help you prepare for that occupation.Otheraspects of the Marygrove system are presented in the catalogueand in the view folder, both of which you may obtain from theRegistrar. The departments in which Marygrove offers a major arepresented alphabetically.(See the catalogue for departments thatdo not offer a major.)The most important occupations for womenare listed under each department that trains for them. The indexin the back of the booklet will show you where a specific occupationis listed. Only the most important occupations are included here;it would take a large volume just to name all of the positions womenhold in various fields. This general classification will, however, help you to identify the occupation for which you would like toprepare yourself. You might go into advertising, for instance, todo copy writing, research, commercial art, promotion, publicity,or consumer analysis—but the urge to train for any one of thesepositions would probably come from an interest in people and thejournalistic impulse to influence them. The foundation courses forall of them would be practically the same;your electives wouldvary according to your special interests and aptitudes.Socialservice work can be broken down in the same way,and so of themajority of occupations listed under any general title. Supplementary information on particular professions follows thedepartmental classifications. If you intend to be a teacher, for example, read carefully all theinformation under Teaching. If you plan to be a doctor, lawyer,or librarian, see thesections under those respective heads. If Civil Service employment interests you, that is explainedunder Civil Service.
