They prevailed upon him,out in Michigan,to run for Con- gress on the Democratic ticket. Of course his campaign was marked by many onusua things,strictly unconvention- al as politics and campaigns go. His campaign manager was a big industrialist who had to anwer the cmHl of business znd go to Europe and South Africa during the campaign,but who contributed generously to the Democratic cause.There were campaign managers a-plenty after that,but Dr.Slcsson managed to win out on some of his firmest convictions aft- er he got the feel of politics, and upheld and aided by his wife,who would be no mean candidate for office herself.Wherever Dr.Slosson spoke he took the bull by the horns. He told labor that there would have to be/some definite reg ulations in place of the Taft- Hartley Act and he named them.He told farmers,of whom there are many'in Michigan,that he believed in controls but they would have to be much lower;that he thought farmers wculd rather operate on even keel than with high prices that broke the consumer's ba ck and brought depressions.It was that way with every group. "Candidates often tell the truth"Dr.Slosson said,"But not the whole truth.
