Whenever the prophet Elisha traveled through the town of Shunem, it was his custom to stop for a meal with a certain rich man and wife that had invited him to their home. “This man often travels past us,” the wife said to her husband.“Let’s build him a special room on our roof for him to stay in.” After they built the room, Elisha rested there the next time he came by. Elisha asked his servant to call the woman and he asked her a question.“You have worked very hard to make this special room for me. What can I do for you?” The woman said she was content with what she had. Later, Gehazi, the servant of Elisha, said,“The woman has no son, and her husband is old.” Again, Elisha called for the woman.“Next year, at this time, you will hold a son in your arms.”“Oh, no, man of God,” the woman said,“don’t fool me with such promises!” However, the woman did become pregnant and gave birth to a son a year later, just as Elisha said.
