“Slam Dunk the Junk!” - Clean Communities Litter March

DMAVA Highlights April 15, 2010 Volume 12 Number 13 Scouting takes on an international flavor By Tech. Sgt. Mark Olsen, 177FW/PA On March 27, twenty Air Force and Army troops participated in a Boy and Girl Scouts event. Now that is not an unusual occurrence because the military has always had a solid relationship with these two organizations. What made it unusual was that it took place in Iraq. “You have to leave your ‘U.S. Scouting’ resume and assumptions at the door, said Master Sgt. Dave Kovak, 177th Fighter Wing Security Forces. “It’s a whole new ball game out here. The key is to be flexible.” Like Scout meetings everywhere, sports and arts and crafts are big, especially soccer. Did I mention soccer was huge in Iraq? Well according to the guide that is handed out, if you control the soccer ball, you control the meeting. “It’s a weekly event that I hope to be part of whenever I have a day off that falls on their Scout meetings,” said Kovak. Most of the time is spent doing traditional scout projects or just interacting with them. “I couldn’t tell who was having more fun the kids or the adults,” said Kovak. Master Sgt. A library book lasts as long as a house, for hundreds of years. It is not, then, an article of mere consumption but fairly of capital, and often in the case of professional men, setting out in life, it is their only capital. --Thomas Jefferson, 3rd president of United States DMAVA Highlights “Slam Dunk the Junk!” Come“Slam Dunk the Junk”!!
