FAQs

How are Part I multiple-choice questions scored in this guide?

Each correct response earns 1 credit. Procedures must follow designated scoring processes, and hand-scoring must avoid any marks on the answer sheet except recording scores in the designated boxes to prevent scanning interference.

What procedures must raters follow when beginning essay question rating?

Raters complete training that includes task introduction, identifying expected answers, reviewing the rubric and anchor papers, and practicing by scoring five papers independently. During actual rating, each rater records individual scores on the provided rating sheet and must not correct the student’s work.

What is required when essay scores differ between raters?

Each essay must be rated by at least two raters. If a third rater is needed to resolve scores that differ by more than one point, schools must also ensure raw score addition and scale-score determination are accurate.
