Oct 13, 2026

The Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act introduces comprehensive reforms to financial regulation, including supervision of financial institutions, a new resolution process for large firms, and a consumer compliance agency with enforcement authority. A key component is the Financial Stability Oversight Council, which coordinates multiple federal and state regulators, monitors threats to U.S. financial stability, identifies regulatory gaps, and directs research and information-sharing. The Council also recommends supervisory priorities and prudential standards, and it can require Federal Reserve supervision for at-risk nonbank firms.
