End-to-end test automation framework for Wellnomics Ltd was developed to address the lack of a current, maintainable solution for newer in-development applications. The project targets continuous integration reliability by ensuring core functionality is verified for each pull request before production merges. Using a Kanban methodology, the team built a scalable framework with TypeScript, Cucumber, and Playwright, coupled with Docker-driven CI and quality assurance and risk management practices.

The end-to-end testing problem existed because they had no up-to-date framework that could be maintained in their newer applications underdevelopment. This resulted in poor processes around ensuring that existing functionality still worked on each pull request in their continuous integration pipelines. By applying the Kanban methodology, we successfully built a framework that could provide feedback in a fully automated manner. Solutions to manage employees' risk factors using the Wellnomics client, which prompts employees to take wellbeing breaks after using their computers. They are based in Christchurch, NZ, with a team of developers and business staff operating out of their office in Sydenham. Ara | Te Pūkenga (Ara) provides tertiary-level education in the South Island of New Zealand (Ara | Te Pukenga, n.d.) . Ara delivers a learning model to provide skills that meet a particular occupation or industry needs. This project was conducted as part of the capstone work integrated learning course for the Bachelor of Information and Communication Technologies degree at Ara. It has developed into a Quality Assurance (QA)/Software engineer role with Wellnomics. Figure 1 Wellnomics Test Automation Poster 2. BACKGROUND Wellnomics required a solution to automate end-to-end tests that could test their core functionality around an internal application that manages their web hosting, text internalization and gadgets. The problem There is an existing need for end-to-end testing to increase their internal application's reliability with feedback that could be directly given to each developers pull request and merged into production. Project goals: • Automate end-to-end tests on their internal website. • Software functionalities are verified on each pull request and before the product goes to production. • Provide an implementation that is scalable to their other products. Student goals: • Improve typescript, docker and Azure pipeline knowledge. • Understand the end-to-end testing library ecosystem. • Apply and learn professional practice within the industry relating to Kanban methodology, communication, collaboration, and planning. 3. PROCESS The section will outline three core processes: Methodology, Risk management and Quality assurance. They were managed carefully, ensuring high quality throughout the project. 3.1 Methodology The methodology used was Kanban (Atlassian, n.d.) . It was alinear approach and each task had to go through six main columns / steps in the process. • To do – Items to be completed • In progress – Items currently in progress • Awaiting merge – Items completed but in review. • Ready for QA • In QA • Done This quality assured poster paper appears at the 14th annual conference of Computing and Information Technology Research and Education New Zealand (CITRENZ 2023) and the 36th Annual Conference of the National Advisory Committee on Computing Qualifications [hosted in Auckland], September 27-29. 3.2 Risk management In the project, the lead author applied the Microsoft risk management framework (Microsoft, n.d.) to help manage variables that could cause significant damage. The implemented framework required identifying

FAQs

What problem did Wellnomics face with end-to-end testing?

Wellnomics lacked an up-to-date end-to-end testing framework that could be maintained for newer applications under development, leading to weak confidence that existing functionality still worked after changes.

What framework and tools were implemented for the automation solution?

The project delivered an end-to-end automation framework using TypeScript, Cucumber, and Playwright, applying software architecture patterns such as page object models and factory methods.

How does the solution support continuous integration and pull requests?

Automated continuous integration was implemented using Docker to set up environments in Azure pipelines, enabling end-to-end tests to run and provide feedback for each pull request before merging into production.
