Step 01: Absorption of Light outlines the first stage of photosynthesis, beginning when plants absorb light using the green chlorophyll pigment. Chlorophyll, attached to proteins in chloroplast thylakoid membranes, captures light energy and uses it to remove electrons from electron donors such as water, producing oxygen. The document then describes electron movement toward a primary receptor, setting up the later electron transfer and ATP and sugar formation steps in the overall process.

STEP 01: ABSORPTION OF LIGHT Sources: https://microbenotes.com/photosynthesis/ PHOTOSYNTHESIS 101 INFOGRAPHIC BIOLOGY SUBJECT: A STEP-BY-STEP LOOK ON HOW PLANTS CREATE THEIR FOOD. Photosynthesis begins with the absorption of light by the green pigment on plants called chlorophyll. These pigments are attached to the proteins found in the thykaloids of chloroplasts. After the light energy is absorbed, it will then be utilized to remove electrons in common donors like water, thereby forming oxygen. Afterwards, the electrons will be moved to quinine (Q), a primary electron receptor similar to CoQ in the electron transfer chain. STEP 02: ELECTRON TRANSFER Electrons go through a chain of electron transfer molecules in the thylakoid membrane, moving further from the primary electron acceptor until it reaches the final electron acceptor, which is usually NADP+. In the transfer process of electrons, a proton gradient develops as a result of protons being pumped out of the membrane. STEP 03: GENERATION OF ATP Through the F0F1 complex, protons move from the thykaloid lumen to the stroma. This process generates ATP from ADP and Pi, similar to the generation of ATP in the electron transport chain. STEP 04: CARBON FIXATION The NADP and ATP generated in steps 2 and 3 serve as the energy source for carbon fixation. In this step, electrons initiate the reduction of carbon into six-carbon sugar molecules. As these processes are independent from light, they are aptly called dark reactions, as opposed to the previous steps which rely on light energy and are referred to as light reactions. STEP 05: GROWTH The entire process of photosynthesis ultimately results in the production of sugar, the primary food source of the plant. This by-product allows the plant to grow in terms of physical structure, including the expansion of its roots. #C6E89B #9D3C00 #FFF15B #46211F #000000 #E1671C Use these design resources in your Canva Presentation. FAQs

What triggers the first stage of photosynthesis in Step 01?

Step 01 starts when plants absorb light using chlorophyll, the green pigment on chloroplast thylakoids.

How does chlorophyll absorption lead to oxygen formation?

The absorbed light energy is used to remove electrons from common donors like water, which results in oxygen being formed.

What is the role of NADP+ in the later stages described?

During electron transfer (Step 02), electrons move through a chain of molecules and typically reach NADP+ as the final electron acceptor.
