Note: If you completed your original tax return in TurboTax Online, you will need to download the Amend program to your computer to complete your amended tax return. Please follow these instructions: 1. Sign into TurboTax online with the log in you used to complete your 2017 tax return. 2. Scroll down to under Your tax returns & documents, select 2017. 3. Select Amend (change) 2017 return. 4. Follow the onscreen instructions in the How to amend your 2017 return. Once you have downloaded and installed the amend software, continue with the steps below. If you already had Desktop software on your computer, continue with the steps below. 2017 New Jersey Amend Instructions for TurboTax CD/Download: 1) Select and open your return. 2) Select File and Save As “Amended 2017 return” before you update TurboTax to preserve your original return. 3) Select Online and Check for Updates. 4) Go to Federal Taxes tab (if using the Home and Business Product, go to the Personal tab) and then select the Other Tax Situations tab. 5) On the Other Tax Situations screen, scroll down to Other Tax Forms and next to Amend a Return, select the Start button. Start to Amend Your Return: 1) On the We’ll help you change (amend) your return screen, click Continue. 2) On the Did you already file your return? screen, select Yes, I’ve already filed my return. Also select I was contacted by TurboTax and told I may need to amend for some other reason, then click Continue. 3) On the Tell Us Which Returns You Want to Amend screen, select I want to amend only my federal or only my state return. Select Amend my New Jersey return. Then, select Continue. 4) Scroll to the bottom of the What do you need to change on your return? screen, and select Update next to State Return. 5) On the Let’s work on your state return screen, select Continue. And select your New Jersey return to Edit. 6) On the Let’s Amend Your New Jersey Return, select Yes, let’s amend and get it done. Then, select Continue. 7) On the Information From Your Original Return screen, confirm the amount listed. Then, select Continue. 􀁸 Amount you paid with your original return can be found on New Jersey Form NJ-1040, line 56. 􀁸 Previously issued refund can be found on New Jersey Form NJ-1040, line 57. 8) On the Dependent’s Health Insurance Coverage – Amended Return screen, check the box for each dependent that did NOT have health insurance on the day the amended tax return is being filed. If all dependents have health insurance, no box should be checked. Then, select Continue. 9) On the Amended Tax Return Statement screen, indicate “The originally filed New Jersey return overstated the Credit for Taxes Paid to Other Jurisdictions on Schedule A, line 9. The amended return correctly reports the Credit for Taxes Paid to Other Jurisdictions and New Jersey income tax”. Then, select Continue. 10) On the Amended Income Tax Resident Return screen, review the information entered and make any necessary corrections. Confirm the amount listed on line 41, Credit for income taxes paid to other jurisdictions. Then, select Continue. 11) On the Amended Income Tax Resident Return – page 3 screen, review the information entered and make any necessary corrections. Confirm the amount listed on line 55, Amount paid with original return, assessments, and/or with request for extension to file (if any) . Also confirm the amount listed on line 57, Refund previously issued from original return (if any) . Then, select Continue. 12) On the Let’s Make Sure You’re Ready to Review screen, select Yes, I’ve entered everything and let’s review. Then, select Continue. 13) On the Ready to Review Your State Return screen, select Continue and complete all final state review questions, if any. 14) On the Not Eligible for screen Electronic Filing, select Continue.

When do you need to download the TurboTax Amend program?
