S. M.A. R.T. Marketing Goals Template HOW TO SET YOUR SMART MARKETING GOALS WITH THIS TEMPLATE: Whether you have short-term or long-term goals, this SMART goal planning template helps you manage the process. Use it to: • Clearly describe your goals • Set a deadline for meeting them • Understand the desired end result This will all be accomplished by focusing on SMART goals, a methodology that helps you make, well,“smart” goals! Before jumping to the template on the next page, let’s review what SMART means. Specific When creating a goal, you want it to be as specific as possible. Your goal should concisely share what you hope to accomplish. For example, instead of saying you want to “improve your marketing efforts,” spell out what that means. Do you want more leads or customers? Do you want to improve your email open rates? Clearly define your objective. easurable M You should be able to track your goals. For example, if we want to increase our social media following, we wouldn’t be able to track our final target. If we start with 100 followers, and end with 101, technically we met our goal, but what did we really accomplish? If we adjust that goal to say,“We want to increase social media following by 25%,” we can measure our progress every month to see if we’re on track to hit 125 followers. Then you’ll really know if you hit your goal, but hopefully it’s more ambitious than this example! ttainable A While having history-breaking goals are beneficial, it’s still important to keep goals realistic. For example, if your company usually averages 10 new leads every month, jumping to 2,000 leads per month would be a drastic and unrealistic change. Many businesses set goals like this to push employees, but in reality, all this does is discourage them because they know they won’t actually be successful. SMART goals are goals you can actually achieve. elevant R Why have a goal if it doesn’t matter? Say you’re a snorkel business that, at maximum, can only sell 1,000 snorkels per month. In this situation, your goal shouldn’t be to “increase production of snorkels from 1,000 per month to 5,000 per month.” While it’s great that you have more product, if your existing distributors won’t buy more, why bother? A better goal in this scenario would be to “increase distribution channels by X%,” and then work on increasing production after. ime-Bound T You need to ensure that you have a timeline for meeting your goal. Let’s say you set a goal to grow your lead/contact list by 10%—you need to know when you will accomplish this in order to start working on secondary goals (like working on increasing your number of marketing qualified leads) . Now that you have an understanding of SMART goals, head over to the next page to start planning your very own SMART marketing goals! What 3 accomplishments are you most proud of during last quarter? What does SMART mean in this marketing goals template?

SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound. The template walks through each element to help define strong marketing objectives.

How should a goal be made measurable?

A goal should include a trackable metric and a meaningful target. The template uses social media growth as an example and contrasts vague outcomes with a percentage-based objective.

Why is the template emphasizing goals being achievable and relevant?

It stresses realism by comparing typical monthly performance versus unrealistic jumps. It also highlights relevance by ensuring the goal matches real constraints, such as distribution capacity, rather than only production.
