This document serves as a comprehensive guide for teachers seeking employment, focusing on the creation of effective resumes and cover letters. It offers detailed steps for constructing a resume, starting with gathering raw material such as accomplishments, personal achievements, education, extracurricular activities, volunteer projects, and work experience. The guide emphasizes the importance of tailoring the resume to the specific job market and the employer's requirements. It outlines three distinct resume formats: chronological, functional, and combination, explaining the strengths and weaknesses of each and providing guidance on when to use them. The chronological resume format is presented as the traditional and most recommended style, particularly for those with a steady career progression. The functional resume format, while debated, is useful for highlighting professional functions and can be beneficial for career changers or those with gaps in their work history. The combination resume format merges the best of both, allowing for flexibility in showcasing skills and experience. The document strongly advises against simply copying examples, urging users to create a personalized resume that accurately reflects their unique qualifications and career aspirations to maximize their chances of being hired.
