Preliminary Assessment Study Scope outlines engineering studies that Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) will perform to evaluate the Project’s impact on the Alberta interconnected electric system (AIES). The scope defines project overview and key load and generation details to be captured in structured tables, including in-service dates, transmission services, and expansion plans. It also specifies how connection alternatives are documented, how selected alternatives are justified, and what rationale is provided when alternatives are rejected.

FAQs

What purpose does the Preliminary Assessment Study Scope serve?

It provides an overview of the engineering studies AESO will conduct to assess the Project’s impact on the performance of the Alberta interconnected electric system (AIES).

What information is included in the project overview tables?

Table 1-1 captures the market participant, project type, and in-service date, while Table 1-2 lists load and generation components with requested and existing transmission service details.

How are connection alternatives handled in the scope?

Connection alternatives are described under separate subheadings, with selected alternatives provided with rationale and rejected alternatives including the reasons for rejection.
