Postcard Design Specifications

Sep 12, 2026

This document outlines the technical specifications for designing postcards to ensure they meet printing and mailing requirements. It details standard postcard sizes, including 4.25”x5.5”, 4”x6”, 5”x7”, 6”x8”, 6”x9”, and 6”x11”. For raster images, a minimum resolution of 300dpi is required, and the typesize for text should be at least 9pt. Specific clear space requirements are provided for the mailing side: a 1”x1” area in the upper right for indicia/postage and a 2”x4” area in the lower right for the address. The document also specifies bleed and print margins, requiring an additional 0.125” (1/8 inch) for bleeds, meaning a 6”x11” postcard with bleed would have a total size of 6.25”x11.25”. Copy and graphics that do not bleed must be kept within 0.125” of the postcard's edge. Designers are instructed to include all placed images and fonts if available. The preferred file formats for submission are Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, or PDF. The document also mentions that full design services are available for clients who do not have artwork. Visual diagrams illustrate the placement of bleeds, print margins, postage, and address areas on the postcard.
