FAQs

What does “contemporaneous” mileage logging require in this template?

Record each business trip as it happens or at the end of each day. Do not reconstruct entries at year-end.

How are tolls and parking treated for deductions?

Tolls and parking are deductible on top of the standard mileage rate.

How does the template calculate deductions under the two methods?

The standard mileage method multiplies total business miles by the IRS standard mileage rate and then adds tolls and parking. The actual expense method calculates deductible amounts using each expense category plus 100% business tolls and parking, then compares totals and selects the better method.
