Frequently asked questions (FAQ) Choosing the contest category Bachelor's theses will compete in two (software, hardware and systems) and master's theses in three categories (software, hardware and systems, information society) . The competition category should be determined when submitting the application. See the descriptions and keywords of the contest categories. The given list of keywords is illustrative, not exhaustive. The pre-stage committee will look through submitted applications and theses. If the committee finds that the subject of the thesis does not fit into the chosen category, the committee has the right to relocate the thesis in the appropriate category. Information about category amendment, should it prove necessary, shall be included in the message about qualification to the final stage. Supervisor’s cover letter There are no rules in place for the content and form of the supervisor’s cover letter. A cover letter is essentially a supervisor’s recommendation, which consists of the following components: where and what is recommended (incl. contest category), supervisor's opinion of the thesis, and why should the thesis qualify to the final round of the contest, etc. The cover letter should be no longer than one A4 and should be signed by the supervisor. What happens if my thesis defence falls on the same day as the contest? Generally, the program managers have taken into account the date of the contest when determining the dates of academic defences. However, if the dates coincide, please contact the assistant to the program manager or program manager and find out if there is an opportunity to change the date you are supposed to defend your thesis. NB! Making a presentation at the contest could be considered as a "rehearsal" for the academic defence of your thesis. Can I participate in the competition, when I defended my thesis in the fall semester of the academic year 2016/2017? Unfortunately no. You are welcome to take part in the competition as an audience member. Why submit your thesis to the competition? You will receive relevant and meaningful feedback on your thesis and speech from the members of the School of IT and experts of ICT companies. According to the feedback received, you can introduce corrections in your speech for academic defense, and also be more prepared for the questions that you might be asked. In addition, the best theses will be recognized with a worthy scholarship. Why take part in the contest as a first / second year student? You will get an overview of the procedure of thesis defence and get to know what other students write about in their theses. At the same time you will have an opportunity to establish new contacts with the company representatives. In addition, an interesting guest performance will take place.
