This document is a critical recall notification concerning a potential safety-related defect in certain two-door refrigerators manufactured by Dometic, specifically models produced between April 1997 and May 2003. The defect involves the potential for pressure buildup in the boiler tube of the covered refrigerant solution, which could lead to a fire hazard. Dometic is undertaking this recall campaign, designated as 06E-076, in cooperation with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The company aims to minimize the strain on the organization's resources and personnel by creating a cooperative, closed-loop data flow. Dometic has retained expert Stericycle to manage this campaign, ensuring that original equipment manufacturers bear the cost of the recall for affected refrigerators. The notification details the specific model numbers covered by the recall and provides a serial number range for identification. It outlines Dometic's commitment to providing a rework of the potential defect at no charge to RV parts or labor, available from early-April 2006. This rework involves a secondary burner housing, thermal fuse, and a melt fuse. Information regarding data collection and payment for the rework is also included. Consumers are instructed on the necessary steps to take, including returning a defect information report to NHTSA within five days of receiving the letter, and a cover letter has been provided specifically for this purpose. The document emphasizes that Dometic recognizes potential product recalls can strain organizational resources, and therefore, their company will not have any experience in conducting vehicle recalls. Authorized by NHTSA regulations, Dometic is offering management of the forthcoming recall as it applies to vehicles manufactured by each of their customers. It is recommended that authorized Dometic customers conduct the recall of their vehicles, including but not limited to the notification of vehicle owners, the implementation of the rework program, and the maintenance of relevant records, and the reporting of the NHTSA to Stericycle, with the firm that Dometic has employed to help conduct this recall.
