Implementation and evaluation of multi-avatar communication system for online communication support - dissertation

Sep 13, 2026

This dissertation presents the implementation and evaluation of a multi-avatar communication system designed to support online communication. It develops robotic and avatar-based interaction components to study how social cues delivered by robotic agents influence attention and engagement in multi-party contexts. Experiments examine attentional behaviors and temporal delays in children with ASD interacting with different social cues, as well as communication apprehension and eye-contact anxiety during video conferencing that involves a teleoperated robot avatar. Results are analyzed and discussed to guide future improvements of such communication-support systems.
