Create an XML template in Microsoft Excel by first receiving an XML file via encrypted email and saving it in an appropriate system location. Follow the workflow to open a blank workbook, use Excel’s XML import dialog to load the XML source structure, then drag and drop parent and relevant data elements into cell A1 to build the headers. Save the resulting template for reuse, then import future XML files to display their data in Excel for reference or further handling.

How to create an XML templateand import the data into aMicrosoft Excel workbook # Step 1 Once an XML file has been received via an encrypted email,save it to an appropriate area of your system. Then followthe steps below. Note: We have provided an example above of what the rawXML data contained in this file will look like. # Step 2 Open a blank workbook in Excel. Step 3 Find the file you saved in Step 1 and select‘Open’. # Step 4 When the dialog box appears, select the below optionand click‘OK’. # Step 5 When the below dialogue box opens, click‘OK’to continue.This will then open an Excel workbook. # Step 6 You will now see the XML source structure on the right-handside pane of the Excel workbook. From this point, you’ll be creating the template ready to acceptthe content of the XML data. # Step 7 By left-clicking the folder elements listed, you can dragand drop them into cellA1 . For illustration, we have draggedthe‘EDIInvoice’parent folder element into the Excel workbook. Note: You can create all the headers that sit below a parentfolder in the spreadsheet by selecting, then draggingand dropping the parent folder into cell A1 (highlightedin the image above) . If you want to customise your data to only see relevantdata elements you can select that particular element fromthe right-hand pane and drag this into the spreadsheet. Once you have completed the above, you can savethe template for future use, which means you won’t haveto repeat steps 1-7. In steps 8-10, we will show you how to bring the datacontained in future XML invoices into the template createdin the above steps. Note: If you have saved the template as per steps 1-7going forward you will need to open the template you havejust created prior to carrying out the next steps for futureXML invoices you receive. # Step 8 Right-click on any column header on the left-hand side ofthe Excel spreadsheet. Then go to XML 􀃆 Import and clickon‘Import’as shown below: # Step 9 Browse the new XML file you want to open and clickon‘Import’to continue. # Step 10 You will now see your data in the Excel file.
