A guitar interactive tool visualizes scales on the fretboard by showing notes, scale degrees, and intervals across major, minor, pentatonic, and major-scale modes in any key. Users can select a key to display the associated scale, highlight positions using CAGED or TNPS, and work with standard tuning (E A D G B E) or alternatives like drop D and DADGAD. The tool also includes a chords section, a tuner, and a virtual fretboard to support composing and transposing chords between keys.

Guitar players can now visualize scales on the fretboard with an interactive tool that shows notes, scale degrees, and intervals. This tool makes it easy to view major and minor scales, pentatonic scales, and modes of the major scale in any key. Just pick a key, and the tool will display the associated scale's notes on the fretboard. Users can also highlight specific positions of the scale using CAGED or TNPS systems. The tool works with standard guitar tuning (E A D G B E) or popular alternatives like drop D or DADGAD. Additionally, it features a guitar chords section, a tuner, and a virtual fretboard. Note: to find out the chords of a piece of music, we must first tune our guitar to concert pitch or standard pitch, which is what an electronic tuner would pick up. This makes our work much easier when composing and transporting chords to a different key. In the chart above, each place on the scale corresponds to a specific type of chord. The most commonly used are primary chords (1st – 4th – 5th), along with the sixth or relative minor. Secondary chords are in purple, and the 7th position is usually a diminished chord, which can be found in Major instead, a semitone lower. If we're missing a chord to release a song, it's likely the flat Major 7th. For example, in B Major, an A\# would become an A, played as a Major instead of diminished. This alters the note and changes the scale from Major to Mixolydian Mode, one of the most used Modes. The chart for natural minor scales has the same structure but starts on a different interval from the 6th note of the Major or Relative minor scale. This is similar to another Mode (Aeolian Mode) . The second note of the natural minor scale is more commonly found in Major and a semitone lower, becoming a minor MODE, specifically the Phrygian Mode. All scales have the same structure, notes, and intervals; it depends on which note we take as the Tonic to play in Major, minor, or Greek Modes. The chart uses red dots for Major, small m for minor, and black dots for filling in the rest of the scale. The essence of the Blues scale lies in a single note that imbues it with its distinctive bluesy flavour-often referred to as the blue note. This concept applies equally well to Major/Minor, Pentatonic, and Blues scales. To play an A Major scale using the left shape, locate the big "M" dots on the G string at the 2nd fret. Interestingly, this is also where you'll find the root note of the scale. If the first note in the shape is played on the first fret, your big M will land on the A note, indicating that you're playing the A Major scale. Now, try improvising over a song like "Fake Plastic Trees" by Radiohead or "Help" by The Beatles, both of which are in the key of A. If you're comfortable with these scales, it should sound acceptable. However, if you slide everything up or down a fret, you'll discover that playing along in the wrong key can be quite jarring. To play in a different key, simply move your shape around on the fretboard until one of the big M's or little m's lands on the desired Major or minor key. This will require some basic knowledge of the notes on the fretboard. Here, I've included animage showing the notes on the fretboard for reference. While it's possible to focus solely on this shape and noodle around in this position forever, extending your A Major scale further up the neck requires learning additional shapes-specifically, the middle shape from my chart. This shape overlaps with the others, allowing you to extend your range by 4 frets simply by tacking it onto the end of shape number one. To go even further, repeat the process with shape three. (Note: I've rewritten the text in a way that maintains the original meaning and tone while making it easier to read and understand. The structure has been adjusted to make it more cohesive and engaging.) Difference between major and minor scales guitar. Major and minor pentatonic scales guitar chart. FAQs

How does the tool display notes and intervals for different scales?

Select a key and the tool shows the corresponding scale notes on the fretboard, including scale degrees and intervals for major, minor, pentatonic, and major-scale modes.

Which guitar tunings are supported?

It supports standard tuning (E A D G B E) and popular alternatives such as drop D and DADGAD.

How does the tool help with finding and transposing chords?

Use the included tuner to match concert/standard pitch, then rely on the chart mapping where scale positions correspond to specific chord types so chords can be moved to another key.
