Project management research by Domingos José Troncão de Carvalho Bragança focuses on reducing time and errors in project management (PM) documentation through document automation. The work builds on ITLingo’s specification language Project Specification Language (PSL) and introduces an Excel template aligned with PSL-v.2021. By adding new sheets and user forms, the template supports report generation from PSL-v.2021 information, improving document quality and readability. Communication with stakeholders is treated as central, making automated PM documents a practical mechanism for managing project communication needs.

Document Automation in ITLingo PSL Excel Template Domingos José Troncão de Carvalho Bragança Thesis to obtain the Master of Science Degree in Information Systems and Computer Engineering Supervisor: Prof. Alberto Manuel Rodrigues da Silva Examination Committee Chairperson: Prof. Luís Manuel Antunes Veiga Supervisor: Prof. Alberto Manuel Rodrigues da Silva Member of the committee: Prof. André Ferreira Ferrão Couto e Vasconcelos October 2021 Abstract Project management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to project activities to meet certain project requirements and to create business value. To help in the process of managing projects, project management tools like Microsoft Project were created to support project managers. ITLingo is a research initiative with the goal to design and develop specification languages in the IT domain. One of those languages is Project Specification Language (PSL) and in the scope of PSL, an Excel template for project management was created. Communication is essential in a project; therefore, it is important to communicate with stakeholders to know what needs to be done and say what is being done. PM documents are vital for the communication in a project, and they should be high quality and easy to read. Project managers excel at making PM documents and they sometimes follow standard templates for the project documents. Document automation is the design of systems and workflows that assist in the creation of documents, and it can help project managers in the creation of those PM documents. The purpose of this research is the creation of a set of PM documents to support a report generation feature with document automation mechanisms in the PSL-v.2021 template. This new template contains new sheets and new user forms that assist in the generation of PM documents. This new feature allows project managers to easily create documents with the information in PSL-v.2021, saving time and reducing the number of errors in PM documents.
