CAL POLY HUMBOLDT-UNIVERSITY SENATE EMERITUS STATUS TEMPLATE - Retirees Submit to Their Nominators

Sep 12, 2026

Emeritus status nomination guidance and a two-page submission template for Cal Poly Humboldt retirees. The document explains that retirees provide basic information to their nominators—former department personnel committee, department chair, supervisor, or the Humboldt-ERFSA when former supervisors are unavailable—by specific deadlines. It outlines nomination due dates for Fall and Spring cycles, notes the template is separate from the electronic nomination form, and restates core emeritus eligibility criteria based on CSU retirement, minimum cumulative service, and meritorious contributions to teaching, scholarship, and service.

FAQs

Who can receive the emeritus status information from a retiree?

The retiree’s nominator can be their former department personnel committee, department chair, or supervisor in their former academic or working unit. When those prior supervisors or chairs are no longer available, the Humboldt-Emeritus, Retired Faculty and Staff Association (Humboldt-ERFSA) can serve as the nominator.

What are the key submission deadlines for emeritus status nominations?

Retirees must provide the template information to their nominator no later than August 15 (for Fall) or January 15 (for Spring). Nominations are due by September 1 for the Fall cycle or February 1 for the Spring cycle.

What criteria does the emeritus policy emphasize for conferring emeritus status?

Conferring emeritus status is based on retirement from California State University, at least ten years of full-time service (or the aggregated equivalent) at the campus, and meritorious contributions to teaching, scholarship, and/or service to CSU. The university senate may award status in special circumstances with less than 10 years of cumulative service.
