ASCII and Binary Representations of Keyboarding - Unit: Coding - Lesson: ASCII and Binary Representations of Keyboarding

Oct 13, 2026

Lesson plan for teaching how computer keyboards are represented using ASCII and binary encoding, plus an explanation of Unicode for keyboard characters. Students interpret ASCII representations and binary math representations of keyboard keys, then explain how Unicode supports keyboard input across languages. The plan outlines learning objectives, instructional resources, equipment and classroom materials, key terms such as ASCII, Unicode, UTF-8/16/32, and an interest approach that prompts discussion about how key presses become computer-recognized codes.
