Proposal motion establishes updated, tentative job descriptions for the AS WWU Student Senator and the AS WWU Student Senate Pro-Tempore. The proposal explains that previous senate authority was ineffective due to limited enforcement and unclear purpose, and frames these documents as new campus roles. The motion outlines the rationale for clear expectations, notes that descriptions may be amended during the 2018–2019 academic year, and specifies fiscal funding through allocated bylaws approval with salary impacts limited to relevant student senate terms.

AS WWU Student Senator Job Description, and AS WWU Student Senate Pro-Tempore Job Description. Proposed Motion: Student Senator Job Description, and Student Senate ProTempore Job Description. Sponsor: VP for Academic Affairs, Levi Eckman. Persons of Contact: VP for Academic Affairs, Levi Eckman. Guest Speaker: N/A Date: 28 September 2018 Attached Document Attached is the AS WWU Student Senator Job Description, and the AS WWU Student Senate ProTempore Job Description. Background & Context The AS WWU Student Senate previously functioned as an ineffective sub-committee of the AS Board of Directors (ASBOD) that, while intended to serve a diverse constituency, operated with no real authority, no real wages, and no real purpose other than to advise the ASBOD. This advisement, however, was not enforced and not always traditionally accepted by the ASBOD, thus making the AS WWU Student Senate prior to these documents, ineffective. Summary of Proposal The attached Job Description for the AS WWU Student Senator and the AS WWU Student Senate ProTempore was approved upon by the same task force who approved by the AS WWU Student Senate ByLaws, & Charge & Charter. The Job Descriptions serve as an avenue for new positions on this campus, not similar to any position that has come before them. The largest difference in these position from their original creation, will be that of an added salary to be dispersed during their time as a Student Senator, or as the Senate Pro-Tempore. The Job Description is tentative, and subject to change at the discretion of the ASBOD, or the AS WWU Student Senate itself to alleviate any issues that may arise during their time as Student Senators. Impacts to salaries may only be made for the following Student Senate though, and not for the year in which they are currently receiving their stipend. Fiscal Impacts The Student Senators will be funded through monies allocated from the approval of the AS WWU Student Senate By-Laws. Alternative Solutions N/A Rationale In order to operate effectively, it is essential that the AS WWU Student Senators and the AS WWU Student Senate Pro-Tempore understand very clearly their job descriptions, as well as what is expected of them as they serve their respective constituencies. These job descriptions are unique in creation, and therefore must be open to amending as the 2018-2019 Academic Year develops. The Assistant Director for Student Representation and Governance will be an important advisor in this process, both to the ASBOD, and the AS WWU Student Senate itself. Summary Page
