9th International Symposium on Social Science (ISSS 2023) - Paper Formatting Guidelines - ABSTRACT（摘要）

Sep 2, 2026

Formatting instructions for preparing a paper for the ISSS 2023 proceedings, emphasizing strict adherence to margins and consistent layout across submissions. Specifies Times New Roman usage at 12-point with character spacing guidance, plus 10-point styling for figure/table titles and references. Details rules for first-, second-, and third-level headings, paragraph indentation, spacing around artwork, and requirements for the first page (no illustrations, figures, or tables). Covers artwork placement, boxing tables, numbering conventions, caption formatting, and mathematical equation layout, followed by guidance for acknowledgements and references style.

9th International Symposium on Social Science (ISSS 2023)（题目—不少于5个单词） Anthony Deraco, Stephen Spangler（作者姓在后,名在前,全部大写） ABSTRACT（摘要），不需要关键词 Below is a set of instructions for preparing your paper in a format suitable for the intended media for these proceedings. It is most important that you follow these guidelines as closely as possible and adhere to the margins (discussed below) for overall consistency and format relationship to all other papers in the intended proceedings. Print or type text as close to the margins as possible without going beyond these margins. INTRODUCTION (一级副标题应使用粗体大写，上面有2行空格，下面有1行空格) Use Times New Roman (the typeface used in these instructions), 12-point, at twelve characters per inch or in proportional spacing (as here). 正文全部12号Time New Roman 字体，图与表标题+参考文献，10号字体。 SUBHEADS 副标题不应单独出现在页面的底部。第一页不能有图+表+公式图与图标题之间需要空一行 First-order subheads should be in bold caps with 2 line spaces above and 1 line space below them. Second-order subheads should be in bold with main words capitalized with 1 line space above and below them. Third-order subheads should be in regular type in all caps with 1 line space above and below them. Subheads should not appear alone at the bottom of a page. Do not leave a blank line between paragraphs. The first line of each paragraph should be indented 18 points (1.5 pica-6.3 mm-1/4”) space. Do not leave a blank line between paragraphs. The first line of each paragraph should be indented 18 points (1.5 pica-6.3 mm-1/4”) space. FIRST PAGE DEStech Publications, Inc. will insert the title and author name(s) in the space left blank on the top of the first page. The title and author name(s) should be supplied on a separate sheet (cover page) and submitted with the manuscript. The author’s current affiliation, including full address, should appear as a footnote on the bottom of the first page in a 10-point Helvetica/Univers/Arial font. If authors are at different affiliations, please include names with affiliations or superscript numbers (see cover page). A 1-point rule (1 inch long/25.4 mm) should be no more than 1/8 inch (3 mm) above the affiliation. A SUMMARY should begin the paper three and a one -quarter inches (83 mm) down from the top (to leave space for the title and author name). No illustrations, figures, or tables should appear on the first page. ARTWORK Artwork (photographs, tables, or figures) should be planned for appearance at the bottom or top of a page, as close to the first mention of the artwork as possible; i.e., no text should appear both above and below artwork. There should be between two and six blank lines between artwork (including captions) and main text and one blank line between artwork and caption (see Figure 1). Artwork should be centered between the left and right margins. In cases where artwork takes an entire page, it should be centered within the margins. All print within the artwork should be in Helvetica/Univers/Arial font in the range of 8 point to 10 point (see Figure 2). Tables and Figures (second-order heading) 二级副标题应使用粗体，主要字词大写，上下各占一行空间。 All tables and figures with text only should be boxed in; i.e., a box should be drawn around the table or figure either by hand with a ruler or with a draw facility on the computer (see Figure 1 sample and Table I sample). Labels for tables should appear centered at the top of the table in uppercase letters in a 10-point font. A Roman numeral should follow the word “TABLE”. Tables should be numbered consecutively throughout the text, i.e. I, II, III, IV, etc. In the case of figures (charts, graphs, photographs), the word “Figure” should appear preceding an Arabic numeral (1, 2, 3, etc.) in the caption, which should be centered below the figure. Figures should also be numbered consecutively throughout the text. Captions must always be printed or typed, not handwritten. EMBED Word.Picture.8 Figure 2. Example of figure. 图与表格标题均为10号字体，表前表后空2行 PHOTOGRAPHS (third-order heading) 三级副标题应使用普通字体，全部为大写字母，上下各留1行空间。 Original co

FAQs

What font and spacing requirements apply to the main text and headings?

Use Times New Roman at 12-point, with text set as specified by the proceedings instructions. First-order subheads are in bold caps with specific blank-line spacing; second-order are bold with main words capitalized; third-order are regular all caps, each with prescribed spacing above and below.

What constraints apply to the first page of the manuscript?

The first page must leave space for the title and author names inserted by DEStech Publications, and no illustrations, figures, or tables may appear on the first page. A summary section should start a specified distance from the top to reserve room for the title and authors.

How should figures, tables, captions, and numbering be handled?

Figures and tables should follow heading and spacing rules: figure captions centered below the figure and table labels centered at the top. Tables must be boxed when text-only, captions must be printed or typed (not handwritten), and both tables and figures must be numbered consecutively throughout the text.
