Yes, My Boss! About Madison Wells, Tapas, and CJ ENM are coming together to bring the hit romance webcomic Yes, My Boss! to life as a 30 minute romantic comedy series focused on that awkward post-college period where you have to decide what you're doing for the [rest of your life... no](rest of your life... no) big. Yes, My Boss! takes place in a big city-think SF, LA, NYC-built on a rich tapestry of cultural identities. With this series, we want to explore what it means to be in your 20s and finding yourself, while caught between two worlds. Whether that's your Asian heritage fighting against your American identity or your need to participate in capitalism fighting your desire to be an artist. The Story Although Ilene Jung is a popular webcomic artist, she is forced to get a crappy desk job to make ends meet, which is how she ends up working for tyrannical manager Jim Kang. However, after Jim unknowingly applies to become Ilene's artist's assistant part-time, the tables are turned. The two embark on a more-than-complicated journey of love/hate where Jim is boss during the 9-5 and Ilene rules the after-work hours.... what could possibly go wrong? Ilene Jung A popular webtoon artist/writer with a passionate fanbase. Plucky, savvy, and determined, Ilene will do anything to realize her dream of launching her own romance webcomic studio and hiring her artist friends full-time... even if it means taking a soul-crushing day job to make ends meet until then. Jim Kang Jim is a rising star at hiJs company, and while he is an expert at anticipating human needs in designing chemical plants and warehouses, he’s not great at the unpredictable side of human interactions. He might come across as hostile and cold, but really he’s just insecure and introverted, finding refuge in romance comics, where life is sweeter and humans are much less frustrating. Our Vision We want to marry the globally popular romantic tropes of K-Dramas with the 30-minute American ensemble comedy. With romantic webcomic-to-K-Drama adaptations finding a global embrace on Netflix, and U.S. audiences already falling for K-Drama tropes like in the To All The Boys franchise, we think the timing is perfect for Yes, My Boss! The webcomic is our jumping off point, but we' re looking to evolve the source material by building out the side characters and focusing on the coming-of-age story that takes place alongside the core love/hate romance. We want to tell a diverse story that is true to the American experience, which means having a cast that explores race, gender, sexuality, and cultures. The Comic Yes, My Boss! was originally released as an 88 episode webcomic on Tapas. Written under the pen name 22kkim with art by the author, the comic has a 9.9/10 rating. Webcomics have a long history as adaptation material in Korea. With increasing globalization due to digital viewing, the [U.S. is](U.S. is) starting to pick up on their cross-cultural value! With 750k+ views in the US and 800k+ in South Korea, this story has proven to transcend cultural boundaries. YOU?!?!
