Combined Science Trilogy Course outline for Y11 Exam Board: • How it's assessed: • Written exams: 1 hour 15 minutes each • 2 exams for each of Biology, Chemistry and Physics – 6 in total • Foundation and Higher Tier entry • 70 marks per paper • 16.7% of GCSE per paper Exam Dates 2018 • Tuesday May 15th BIOLOGY paper 1 pm • Thursday May 17th CHEMISTRY paper 1 am • Thursday May 23rd PHYSICS paper 1 pm • Monday June 11th BIOLOGY paper 2 am • Wednesday June 13th CHEMISTRY paper 2 am • Friday June 15th PHYSICS paper 2 am Paper 1 topics Biology topics 1–4: • Cell Biology; Organisation; Infection and response; and Bioenergetics. Chemistry topics 8–12 • Atomic structure and the periodic table; Bonding, structure, and the properties of matter; Quantitative chemistry; Chemical changes; and Energy changes. Physics topics 18–21: • Energy; Electricity; Particle model of matter; and Atomic structure. Paper 2 topics Biology topics 5–7: • Homeostasis and response; Inheritance, variation and evolution; and Ecology. Chemistry topics 13–17: • The rate and extent of chemical change; Organic chemistry; Chemical analysis; Chemistry of the atmosphere; and Using resources. Physics topics 22–24: • Forces; Waves; and Magnetism and electromagnetism Exam style • Multiple choice, structured, closed short answer, and open response questions • There are 21 Required Practicals that have been completed – these can be assessed in the exam • Equations-there are two lists of physics equations: 1. You must be able to recall and apply one set of equations ( Learn these!) . 2. Other equations are given on a sheet inserted into the question papers. Students must be able to select and apply these equations. Ramping Ramping means that a question gets progressively more difficult as you work through it. Questions for any topic area will be ramped in terms of demand within the question, as well as within the paper. This allows you a fair chance of gaining some marks on each topic area throughout the paper. Some questions will step up in demand gradually, others quite sharply.
