When President Marjorie Kovacevic sent soldiers and tanks into the vast expanse of Sherwood Forest, she boasted that her army would flush out 300,000 Forest People and eliminate the rebels controlling the territory. Within a month, the army had captured one-third of Sherwood Forest, but as the harsh winter set in, an alliance of rebel groups led by the biker Jake ‘Cut-Throat’ Maid were using guerilla tactics and their expert knowledge of the dense terrain to begin a gruelling fightback. Twenty months after fighting began, Cut-Throat’s rebels still control more than half of Sherwood Forest. They live in fortified camps and survive on supplies dropped by drones or smuggled through tunnels dug beneath enemy lines. While the Forest People keep up their heroic fight, President Kovacevic faces her own battle to survive. After its brutal army tactics were exposed on social media, many countries have imposed economic sanctions on Kovacevic’s government and will not sell weapons to it. There has also been international condemnation of the president for holding 200,000 Forest People in open-air prison camps with poor food and sanitation. The president’s army is demoralised, short of equipment and suffering daily casualties in Sherwood Forest. At the same time , a weak economy and the huge cost of military operations has forced the government to make unpopular decisions, raising taxes and slashing the amount spent on hospitals and schools. Like most of her people, President Kovacevic is tired of the war she started. But opposition politicians have promised to put her on trial for war crimes if they return to power. If Kovacevic wants to remain president, she must do whatever it takes to destroy the rebels in Sherwood Forest. [OceanofPDF.com](OceanofPDF.com) 1. GOLDEN ARROW The afternoon sun was bright, but the wind whipping along the canal bank had a chill that shot up Robin Hood’s shorts. Summer was on its way out, and he’d noticed guys in his class were already switching to jeans or trackie bottoms. Robin stopped his bike and batted the door mirror of a black Peugeot, parked in a canal-side disabled bay. The baldie on the driver ’s side jolted awake and dropped his half-eaten baguette down into the footwell. ‘Try and stay awake, old fella!’ Robin teased. ‘I could be up to something.’ As the driver bent forward to recover his half-eaten lunch, the wiry, grey-haired woman in the passenger seat shot Robin a glare over the top of her aviat
