VISUAL REFERENCE LIBRARY - Air all around us - Things to do - Glossary - Index

Sep 29, 2026

Air all around us explores what air is and why it matters for living things. It explains air as a mixture of gases, the role of oxygen in respiration, and how plants take in carbon dioxide to produce oxygen through photosynthesis. The text also links air to environmental factors such as the atmosphere, air pressure, weather, heating, sound, and pollution, ending with practical activities, a glossary, and an index for quick reference.

FAQs

What is air and what gases does it contain?

Air is a mixture of gases. Oxygen and nitrogen make up much of the air, with smaller amounts of other gases.

Why do living things need air?

Nearly all living things need air to survive. Oxygen is required to help break down food and release energy in cells.

How do plants help the air cycle?

Plants take in oxygen and use it to process food, and during daylight they take in carbon dioxide. Through photosynthesis, they release oxygen while making food for the plant.
