The objective of the VIVA Logone project is to promote irrigation and drainage services in the Logone Valley, notably through the complete rehabilitation of 12,210 ha of rice-growing perimeters of the Société d'Expansion et de Modernisation de la Riziculture de Yagoua (SEMRY) . In this perspective and as part of the preparation of this project, as is customary with the World Bank, it appeared necessary to carry out a detailed Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA), in order to identify, characterize and evaluate the impacts that could be generated by its implementation, and to propose mitigation, compensation or improvement measures. This document, which is the report resulting from this study, is structured around eight (08) main points, namely (i) the general introduction; (ii) the description of the project; (iii) the review of the legal and institutional framework of the study; (iv) the description and analysis of the initial state of the site and its environment; (v) the summary of public consultations; (vi) the identification and analysis of potential impacts and the proposal of environmental and social measures to mitigate or compensate for negative impacts, and to improve positive impacts; (vii) the conclusion and recommendations. It is completed by an Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP), which is the breakdown into actions of the measures proposed in the study. The intervention zone of the proposed VIVA Logone Project is located in the Department of Mayo-Danay, Far North Region of Cameroon.
