ASVAB Scoring Guide Regardless of which branch of the US military you wish to enlist in, you will be required to achieve a minimum Armed Forces Qualification Test (AFQT) score. Your AFQT score is determined by combining your scores from four sections of the ASVAB: • Arithmetic Reasoning (AR) • Mathematics Knowledge (MK) • Paragraph Comprehension (PC) • Word Knowledge (WK) So, what’s the point of the rest of the ASVAB sections? The AFQT score just determines your eligibility to enlist in the military at all. Once you’ve qualified to enlist by achieving a passing AFQT score, your performance on the ASVAB as a whole can help jump-start your military career by increasing the odds of landing the assignment you want. | AFQT Category | Percentile | | --- | --- | | I | 93-99 | | II | 65-92 | | IIIA | 50-64 | | IIIB | 31-49 | | IV | 10-30 | | V | 1-9 | The AFQT is scored as a percentile between 1 and 99. The reference group that the percentile is based on is a sample of 18-to 23-year-olds who took the ASVAB back in 1997. This means that if your AFQT score is, say, 77, you scored as well as 77% of the 1997 sample group. | Section

In both cases, their scores are combined into a single “AS”score. 1 Army Jobs (MOS) If you are considering joining the US Army, you can rest assured that there is a Military Occupation Specialty (MOS) that meets your skill set and interests. FAQs

How is the AFQT score determined?

The AFQT score is calculated by combining scores from Arithmetic Reasoning (AR), Mathematics Knowledge (MK), Paragraph Comprehension (PC), and Word Knowledge (WK).

What does an AFQT percentile mean?

AFQT is reported as a percentile from 1 to 99 based on a reference group of 18-to 23-year-olds who took the ASVAB in 1997. A score of 77 means performing as well as 77% of that sample.

How do Army MOS codes work and what do they represent?

Each Army MOS is labeled with three characters: two numbers and one letter. The two-digit number generally aligns with the career management field (CMF), such as CMF 11 covering infantry, while the letter indicates categories like senior sergeant (E-8), where MOS 11Z is listed as senior infantry sergeant.
