Underfloor Heating Guide explains how hydronic underfloor heating creates comfortable, evenly warmed rooms and supports good health through radiant heat. It compares heating times for screed and slab/heat emission plates, outlines how comfort is achieved without cold spots, and describes why system design considers local climate, codes, and building practices. The document then details underfloor heating methods including in-slab, in-screed, timber joist heat emission plates, and an installation approach for existing homes using thin panels and self-levelling compound.

Feeling warmand comfortable in our homes helpsmaintain the feeling of well-being andpromotes good health. There are numerousways to experience warmth but only a fewthat guarantee real comfort. Heating Times In Screed ~ 3 Hours In Slab & Heat Emission Plates ~ 24 Hours In slab heating and heat emission plates should beset to your desired temperatureconstantly. This will give you the most cost effective running costs as itwill just‘top up’thetemperature instead of working hard as it does on day one. Simple, clean &efficient. Due to its supreme level ofcomfort and great heatingefficiency, underfloor heatinghas become the popular wayto heat Australian homes. Benefit from our expertise in underfloorheating system solutions. Radiant energyemitted by the floor is partly reflectedby each surface and partly absorbed.Where it is absorbed, that surfacebecomes a secondary emitter. After awhile, all surfaces become secondaryemitters. Furnishings themselves radiateenergy and the room becomes evenlyand uniformly warmed. The energy andheat reaches into every corner of theroom – no cold spot, no hot ceilings andno cold feet. Our manufacturing research anddevelopment operations have allowed ourproduct range to be created with the localclimate, codes and building practices inmind. Equally, this enables the productrange to evolve in quick response to futurelocal market changes. Through the dPPHeating training process, installers obtain acomplete understanding of the system andprocedures for a compliant installation. dpphydronics. com. au | 1300 303 471 ## Underfloor HeatingMethods & Solutions Before choosing underfloor heating, manyfactors need to be considered; one of, if not themost important of which, is floor construction. IN SLAB In slab floor heating turns your whole floor intoa radiant heater, producing that amazinglycomfortable warm home that hydronic floorheating is known for. In slab floor heating isthe standard method forhydronic underfloor heating. Pipes are secured to metal reinforcement200mm apart, in either a spiral or serpentinelayout at lengths no more than 100m. Concreteis then poured, encompassing the underfloorpipe, creating a structural slab to build on.When connected, heated water will flowthrough the underfloor pipework, transferringheat into the concrete, in turn radiating heat towithin the property. IN SCREED 30 - 70mm Pipe Cover 30mm if Covered 70mm if Polished Mesh 50mm Down In screed floor hydronic heating is the moste cient and responsive method of underfloor hydronic heating, it can be installed inboth new and existing homes. Like structuralfloor heating, in screed heating turns yourwhole floor into a radiant heater, producingthat amazingly comfortable warm home thathydronic floor heating is known for, but does itin a far more responsive and efficient way. Under floor heating pipe is located and securedinto Pipe Positioning Board, at a distance of200mm apart, which is laid directly on top ofa pre poured structural slab. The under floorheating pipe and Pipe Positioning Board arethen screeded over with a minimum of 50mmthick concrete screed. 90mm Additional FFL 17mm Tracking Plate & Pipe Sheet Size: 870 x 1100mm Expansion Foam ~53mm Screed 20mm Foam Slab dpphydronics. com. au | 1300 303 471 Underfloor

FAQs

What heating times are typical for screed versus slab and heat emission plates?

Screed takes about 3 hours, while slab and heat emission plates take about 24 hours. The guide emphasizes setting the system to a desired temperature constantly.

How does in-slab underfloor heating work?

Pipes are secured to metal reinforcement about 200mm apart in a spiral or sentinel layout (up to 100m lengths), then concrete is poured to form a structural slab. Heated water transfers heat into the concrete, which radiates warmth throughout the property.

What is the timber joist method for underfloor heating?

Heat emission plates are secured between floor joists, with floorboards laid on top. The plate’s groove locates specialist PEX-A pipe, sandwiching it between the plate and floorboards to increase the heat transfer surface area.
