It was a personal, sick goal to make them quit. And as I stepped out of my evening shower, I smiled at myself in the mirror. As today was the day Antonio would quit. I’d make sure of it. Overall, Antonio was a nice guy. He showed up every day and did his job protecting me wherever I went. Even in my dad’s estate. But fuck, he was boring to talk to. And I was bored as shit. I mean damn, when your dad was the Don of the massive Beretta family in a shady ass city, and he wouldn’t let you work a normal job or go party because you were too much of a target …life got boring fast. It didn’t help that I didn’t see him much. It was dumb, as being almost twenty-one, needing my daddy’s attention. It was what happens when he didn’t let me go out, forcing me to sneak out and give all my bodyguards near strokes stressing over me. I wished Dad wasn’t so overprotective. Just, fuck, I wished he trusted me, so I didn’t have to do this. I needed freedom. Poor Antonio, he had no idea I was doing my hair and makeup to slip out and head to a club. Not one of my father ’s many clubs, though. His goons would tackle me and take me home first thing. No, I had found one somewhat nearby. It was smaller, but the people online said it was exciting as hell. I tapped on my phone, scheduling a taxi ride. I had to time this out with Antonio’s break. After I finished my makeup, I got the notification that my driver was outside. With a deep breath, I peeked outside my bedroom door. Perfect, Antonio was gone. Luckily, he took breaks longer than given. With my heels in hand, I scurried down the hallway and down the massive steps. The evening in Dad’s estate was calm, with only the occasional servant in the other room finishing their tasks for the day. Dad was no doubt in his office, too busy with God knows what illegal thing. And Enzo and Marco, my older brothers, were likely at home with their wives for the night. I slipped between the large doors and hurried down the paved path. Past the running water fountain and statues, and the garden beds loaded with flowers upon flowers, my feet slapped and stung. Such a fancy place, despite it hiding the darkness within its aged walls. No matter, as I closed the gate behind me and waved at the poor guy picking me up. He didn’t look at me as I settled in the back seat. As I put on my heels, I chuckled.“To Neon Bliss. And hurry.” The man shot a curious glance at me in his rearview mirror, then eyed the estate. He gulped and pulled into the street. I grimaced as I fought with my heels, praying he didn’t realize who I was or knew of my father. His damn name was huge. Most of the city shrouded in sin knew of him. He ran several clubs and controlled a healthy line of drugs into the city. And the occasional weapons cargo. I didn’t take part in it. My brothers did, but Dad expected me to stay hidden and wait until it was time to marry me to another family in the criminal ring. I rolled my eyes at the thought, loathing the idea of marrying someone just to be an arm trophy and baby making machine. Did I want kids? Sure, but on my own time with someone I actually liked.
