FAQs

What are the three options to obtain an Oklahoma learner permit?

Students can (1) complete Brown’s 10 hours, take the written test at an Oklahoma vocational center, then submit results and the contract to a tag agency; (2) complete the 10 hours and take the written test through Service Oklahoma; or (3) complete Brown’s course and use the completion certificate to have the written test waived, while still being able to take it to show the driver manual was studied.

What documents and identification are required at a tag agency or Service Oklahoma?

Applicants must be at least 15½ years old, present the original Brown’s contract or completion certificate, and bring at least one form of ID (with 2–3 recommended). Originals are required, and a Social Security card or the Social Security number is needed; under-18 applicants must have a parent or legal guardian accompany them or provide an affidavit if a parent is not present.

What are the main driving test requirements and age-related permit timing rules?

To take the driving test, students must have all fees paid, be 16 or older, and hold the correct Oklahoma learner permit duration: under 18 for 6 months until age 18, and over 18 for 31 days. A completion certificate is required, and 16½+ students may take the driving test even without completing driver education if the Intermediate License (IDL) is held for one year. The test fee is $40 ($50 for non-Brown’s), and Brown’s students are never charged a retest fee.
