Titanium oxo clusters (TOCs) with well-defined molecular structures enable photocatalysis, including photocatalytic degradation, hydrogen production, and water oxidation, yet their hydrolytic stability and light absorption strongly depend on the choice of peripheral organic ligands. Using salicylhydroxamic acid (H3L), two TOCs were solvothermally synthesized and characterized as [Ti8(μ2-O)2(μ3-O)2(OiPr)12(L)4]·2CH3CN (1) and [Ti16(μ2-O)10(μ3-O)4(PhCOO)14(L)6(HL)2]·4CH3CN·2iPrOH (2). Complex 2 replaces alkoxy ligands with multidentate ligands via benzoic acid addition, achieving enhanced hydrolytic stability, a visible-light absorption up to 700 nm, and measurable activity for methyl orange photodegradation.
