This Strangest Everything is a distinguished collection of poetry by John Ciardi, a major figure in mid-20th-century American literature. Published by Rutgers University Press in 1966, the volume captures the poet's signature blend of sharp, observant wit, lyrical density, and a profound, affectionate engagement with the complexities of contemporary life. The collection reflects Ciardi's development as an artist who finds narrative depth in the minutiae of human existence. Building upon his previous acclaimed works like In Fact and Person to Person, this book showcases his speculative, graceful, and generous poetic voice. It includes a variety of poems that demonstrate his ability to establish immediate, meaningful contact with the reader through evocative imagery and a highly accessible, yet intellectually rigorous, style. The volume serves as a testament to his enduring impact on American lyricism, offering readers a thoughtful exploration of reality, personal connection, and the nuances of the human condition in a changing world.
