FAQs

How is Average Party Level (APL) used in this adventure?

Calculate APL by adding the total character levels and dividing by the number of characters, rounding up when needed. Use the APL to set the challenge level and guide encounter DC adjustments.

What happens when a creature fails a madness saving throw?

Failure causes short-term or long-term madness, and the creature also gains one point of continuing madness. Continuing madness accumulates up to thresholds that trigger rolls on long-term or indefinite madness tables.

What are the map and room rules inside the madhouse?

Maps use 1 square = 5 feet. Rooms generally have no walls and are surrounded by darkness; stepping off a room edge triggers a fall, damage, and prone landing unless damage from the fall is avoided.
