Loneliness in older adults is linked to increased mortality, yet the specific effect of virtual home assistants (VHAs) in underserved communities remains insufficiently documented. This pilot pre-post mixed methods study (2024–2025) examined VHA use on loneliness among adults aged 60+ living alone in the Greater Flint Area. Thirteen participants received an Echo Dot and a smart light with eight weekly follow-up contacts, meeting criteria for isolation and prior smartphone/Wi-Fi access. Baseline dissatisfaction with AI was 54%, and interviews reported limited loneliness reduction, while some valued music, interaction, social relevance, and advice that improved engagement.
