The chapter opens with Jamie asking what the house is like, whether it will be nice, and whether he can have his own room. His father explains the room arrangement and describes the family’s plan to get the house ready by painting and installing electrics. Jamie studies the map while traveling in a van filled with tools, sleeping bags, and food. The journey includes turning onto a road and driving through a tunnel of trees toward a house far from anywhere.
