The story "The Golden Pig" by Swornil Smriti, featuring the character Lingyok, begins with Lingyok returning home from school to find his father, Buba, preparing a bamboo carrier for piglets and his mother, Aama, feeding the pigs. Buba joyfully announces the birth of their sow's piglets, but Lingyok appears indifferent, retreating to his room situated above the pigsty. His father, a pig farmer who acquires piglets from the village to sell at the weekly market, later takes Lingyok to collect piglets from the old phedangma, the village's religious leader. As they load the piglets into perungos, the phedangma blesses Lingyok, encouraging him to become a better pig trader than his father. Lingyok is unsettled by this wish and looks to his father for reassurance. Buba dismisses the phedangma's words as a joke and urges Lingyok onward. That night, the newly acquired piglets are placed in Lingyok's room. While Lingyok attempts to do his homework, the piglets begin to squeal, and the mother sow, separated from her young, cries out in distress from below. The commotion prevents Lingyok from concentrating on his studies and from sleeping. The following morning, Lingyok wakes to find Aama grinding pig fodder. Buba has already departed for the market. Aama then informs Lingyok that she requires his assistance with the pigs for the day and instructs him to skip school. Lingyok, however, remains silent, simply standing before his mother and rubbing the sleep from his eyes. The narrative is developing the character of Lingyok and his potential future in the family's pig-trading business, contrasting his apparent reluctance with the expectations of his father and the village elder
