'Your parents didn't get very far along thealphabet then,AA?'Liam said when they werebundled into a bus by the efficient(and veryblonde and pretty)conference organiser.Anotherof Liam's jokes that fell on deaf ears.Which iswhy he is now sitting on his own in the universitycafe, busy with students getting their lunches.Hejust couldn't face another silent mealtime with theScot, eating from the buffet set up by the confer-ence organisers. Instead,he found his way to something whichlooked very much like the undergraduate canteen, although he has spotted a few older-lookingpeople -tutors and professors,he assumes -huddled together at a table in the corner of thevast room. Liam sighs and looks through one of the tall, rounded windows over the impressive centralsquare of the old university. The rust colouredbuilding is facing a statue of an important Swede
