Comprehensive historical memoir of the 1918–19 Spanish flu pandemic, outlining how the influenza A(H1N1) epidemic spread, why it was named “Spanish Flu,” and what made its mortality pattern extraordinary. The text emphasizes rapid onset in some cases, frequent deaths from complications such as bacterial pneumonia, and unusually high attack rates among healthy adults aged 20–50. It also contrasts the pandemic’s features with typical flu risks and later outbreaks, while describing the virus’s effects on the lungs and systemic symptoms.
