Anti-Socialism course material, Lesson VIII, examines where nationalisation has been tried and what results it produced. It defines nationalisation as state ownership and control of industries, summarizing that outcomes across various countries are generally disappointing. The lesson also distinguishes non-productive public services such as the Army, Navy, Police, and Fire Brigades, arguing they should not be treated as genuinely socialistic. The document frames these points to support the wider anti-socialist position.

FAQs

What does the lesson define as nationalisation?

Nationalisation is defined as state ownership and control of any particular industry.

How does the lesson evaluate the results of nationalisation in various countries?

Across various countries, the results are stated to be extremely disappointing overall.

Why does the lesson argue that public services like the Army, Navy, Police, and Fire Brigades are not truly socialistic?

Because they are of a non-productive character, the lesson says they could not be undertaken by privately owned companies, so they are not properly described as socialistic.
