Divine wisdom is contained in these words of Our Lord:"Every kingdom dividedagainst itself shall be made desolate:and every city or house divided against itselfshall not stand."(Matthew 12:25)Although spoken to the Pharisees, there has beenno period of time in which these words did not apply nor has there been a period oftime when the words were more significant than they are today. llustrations of the need for cooperation and what it can achieve are many anddiverse, ranging from the combined effort required of all in a successful basket baligame to the concentrated, single motivated effort expended by a plant in the forma-tion of a flower. That results are achieved through a unity of purpose is recognizedand accepted. The faulty tendency for some is to stress united activity with failure to emphasizethe essential elements of understanding, appreciation, and intelligence which make thiseffort worthwhile. It is the contention of those for whom the study of man with all hiscomplexities is of importance that only those actions are of far reaching value andconsequence which result from a thus fortified spirit of cooperation. We point tothe frightening ruthlessness of lynchings, the gross corruption of ignorant votingprocedures as indicative of cooperative efforts lacking the ingredients fundamental totheir successful operation. In order that we may continue to advance, intelligent, cooperative, unitedaction is essential. Its need must be instilled in the hearts of the generation nowgrowing up.That is the duty of each of us to whom our rite, our Church, our heritageare precious. We must recognize that it can be achieved only through proper education, one which wil,by means of well equipped and thoroughly trained teachers whohave at their command books and materials designed for young people, deeply sowthe seed of knowledge, understanding, and love of rite,Church, and heritage in thehearts of the young;will carefully tend and strengthen the new growth of the seed;will wisely guide its growth to maturity and the fruition so ardently desired.
