One impediment to stopping the terror is the public's inexpe-rience in first recognizing and then dealing with the terrorist.Thisbook is the encyclopedia of what adults should know about theparticular terrorist called the pedophile.It is also a powerful hand-book of all the things that loving and protective parents can dowrong when fate places them in these circumstances. In fact,the loving parents in this case did everything absolute-ly wrong,while believing they were doing everything right. During my first two years on the bench,I was faced with myfirst pedophile case.Perhaps like you,I did not know much aboutpedophilia and saw red at the very thought of an adult man hav-ing sex with an innocent child.The defendant in my case was aschool teacher who the previous year had been named Teacher ofthe Year by his colleagues.Everyone liked him.He was kind,gen-tle,caring and trusted.He was also taking thousands of photos ofchildren in their underwear and without.Thankfully,in his case,there were no allegations of physical sexual activity.He was a homosexual pedophile.That is to say his prey was always youngboys.The pedophile in this book is a heterosexual pedophile. While my case was pending,I attended a course in pedophil-ia at John Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore.It has a world-renowned clinic on sexual deviations.I wanted to know more aboutthis once revered,now reviled teacher that I was about to sentenceto prison.What made him tick?How does one know a person isa pedophile?What do they look like?How do they act?Was I infor a surprise!
