A first-person opening chapter introduces Theo’s Saturday morning routine being repeatedly interrupted by his young daughter Charlotte, whose restless internal clock turns weekends into early-morning wake-ups. The narrative begins with a playful yet persistent “Daddy?” that cuts through Theo’s attempt to sleep, escalating from muffled replies to Charlotte pulling the pillow away. The scene establishes family dynamics, childlike determination, and the emotional texture of fatherhood as the story moves toward the start of a new chapter.
