The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission supports initiatives to address school dropout rates. Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh stated in the Dewan Rakyat that the scrapping of primary and lower secondary school public examinations has not impacted Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results. This evaluation is based on the Ministry of Education's assessment of the 2023 and 2024 SPM examinations. The Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) and Pentaksiran Tingkatan 3 (PT3) have been replaced by school-managed tests. Teachers are equipped to prepare students according to the test specification schedules set by the Examinations Syndicate. Efforts to reduce school dropouts include boarding facilities for rural students, travel and transport assistance, and financial aid for rural schools. The Dropout Student Outreach Programme, in collaboration with local communities, aims to reintegrate students into education. Amendments to the Education Act mandate schooling up to the secondary level. The ministry will continue to administer school-based tests alongside the SPM. The dropout rates are currently 0.05 per cent at the primary level and 0.59 per cent at the secondary level.
